The Recovery Room, sometimes called the Post-Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU), is an area where the patient is taken to after surgery to safely regain consciousness from anaesthesia and receive the appropriate post-operative care. It is usually located near the Operating Room – either as bay areas or private rooms. Medical devices are required to closely monitor the patient’s vital signs as the effects of the anaesthesia wears off. Patients may be disorientated as they regain consciousness so healthcare professionals work to ensure they are physically and emotionally comfortable.
