Starkstrom - Best of British

It’s always good to hear of a British company that is flourishing and creating secure jobs for its workforce - medical engineering specialist Starkstrom is proud to be winning contracts, promoting innovation, and supporting British industry by producing world class equipment, primarily manufactured in its facilities in London and the Midlands.  It continues to provide NHS and private hospitals both here and overseas with the very best technology for use in operating theatres and critical care areas, proving that even in this challenging financial climate, a company with the right skills, products and ethos can still succeed.

Employing over 100 people, Starkstrom has seen its turnover quadruple from £3m in 2005/6 to £12m in 2010/11.  In the 40 years since it was first established, the group has remained at the forefront of medical innovation, with its Isolated Power Systems, Operating Room Control Panels and PACS Viewing Stations being particularly notable for their market-leading design.  The company has a dedicated Research and Development team, and places great importance on growing with the market it serves – as that market becomes ever more complex and sophisticated, Starkstrom ensures its products can fulfil the needs of even the most demanding or unusual project. As part of work on the new clinical block at the internationally renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, Starkstrom developed a special hybrid theatre control panel incorporating the latest touch screen technology.  The company is also involved with work at Langford Veterinary Services, providing lights, PACS, theatre panels and AV integration for animal operating theatres.

Starkstrom has a major share in the medical engineering market, with a reputation and client portfolio that extends to projects worldwide. Clients throughout the world continue to be impressed by the fact that Starkstrom is able to provide an integrated package of operating room and critical care equipment - its Integrated Solutions range.   This means that they only need to deal with one specialist, experienced supplier, saving time and money and ensuring projects run smoothly and efficiently.

When the company’s co-managing director, Andy King, took Starkstrom over in 2006, he had a vision of making it a truly global player, but remaining firmly true to its British roots.  As he says, “From our offices in Britain, we are proud to be using British expertise to produce world class equipment.  Our exports continue to grow, taking Starkstrom into the ever-expanding global healthcare market, and benefitting the UK economy and global profile as a result.  At Starkstrom we remain as positive as ever, sure that our dedication to innovation, confidence in our products and total commitment to customer satisfaction will continue to keep us right at the top of our field.”
